Talking about Education – The family, school and society

The task of educating these days is complex and arduous. Those who work with young people know that the irreverence that often turns into mockery and irony, are not isolated cases.

It takes a joint effort on the part of the family, the school and society, in order to rescue ethical, moral values, respect, responsibility, etc.

In this new society of the XXI century, where family formation has another face, when most of the time those responsible are coming from the 2nd or 3rd marriage, and the work absorbs a good part of the time, leaving a gap in the formation of the children, the school institution Is presented as one of the few places where the limits are still present.

Psychologists, educators, and psychopedagogues have been preoccupied with a growing indiscipline, and increasingly aggressive, in the classroom, perhaps provoked by a package that includes family disruption, lack of limits, demand for success at any price, almost hysterical stimulation to the Consumption as a lifestyle, cell phones, designer clothes, brand name shoes, etc.

Establishing limits has the objective of preparing the child and the adolescent for life, where they will find rules, in the execution of their functions, respect towards the superiors or employers, seriousness and responsibility towards the tasks of their position, etc.

Being able to face, the adversities of life, frustrations, disappointments, is a fundamental role of those responsible for children and young people, and to educate is to present in practice, the life they will face in their daily lives.

Preserving them and protecting them from life unconditionally, is not an educational act, so teaching them to respect the spaces, the rights of others, their limits and responsibilities is key to a sound education.

Youth is immature, imperfect and unfinished, one can not want and expect perfection from her, for she is not conscious of herself. Only those who are no longer young can perceive the youth and their moments, and hence, the responsibility of all those who have the task of educating, showing new directions and possibilities to those in the process of formation.

Parents, teachers, civil authorities must be aware of their positions, and they must be powerful in the exercise of their educational functions, for educating is incompatible with the feeling of not having what to do, not knowing what attitude to take.
The great majority of Brazilian students study in Public Schools, which means that most of the future citizens will have been formed by them, this is to say that the future of the children of all depends in part on how the public school plays its role .

Civil society, authorities, and parents need to be at the side of the school, and to charge for hard-working, dedicated, committed adolescents. By exercising each one’s role we will have a quieter and fairer community for all.
